Instagram is expanding the Digital Collectables feature to showcase more NFTs on Instagram.
In May 2022 Instagram first tested a feature where fans can support their favourite creators by purchasing digital collectables – art, images and videos, music or trading cards – as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by sharing the collectables on the platform. This month the feature has been further expanded to Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the USA.
This feature includes:
- Connecting a digital wallet. This allows creators and collectors will have the ability to choose which NFTs from their wallets they would like to share on Instagram.
- Sharing digital collectables. Once a creator or collector posts a digital collectable, it will have a shimmer effect and can display public information, such as a description of the NFT which will be posted to their feed.
- Automatic tagging of both the creator and collector.
Building support for NFTs, Instagram aims to improve accessibility, lower barriers to entry, and help make the NFT space more inclusive to all communities.
